I have always loved the piano forte, both for its sound and the motherly shape of its body. The Piano was my favourite film as a teenager, and remains very much so, especially for the artistically nude Harvey Keitel amorously caressing its surface with a cloth.
For fear of losing myself in Yann Tiersen and Philip Glass, I opened up to other composers, and my taste for dark folk music permitted the discovery of Michael Cashmore's solo work, very different from his band Nature and Organisation.
"The Snow Abides" is a musical piece of poetry. Antony's soft voice gently soars over Cashmore's melancholy melodies, telling tales that taste like flowers dying, snow melting and eyes opening on white empty skies.
There is so much to listen to in this album and so much to perceive and imagine as well.
This was my first introduction to the voice of the person who is, for me, one of the greatest artists who walk the earth, Antony Hegarty. Why? Because of his sensitivity, of his propensity to channel emotions and change them into sweet tunes, Antony becomes a messenger of intemporal beauty.
